In the first PSHE unit, pupils will learn about life in a classroom, by exploring their rights and responsibilities, as well as exploring the theme of self-identity and emotions.

Pupils begin to learn about families, where we live and how they are special through their talents.

Spring 1 Spring 2

In this unit, pupils take time to investigate how they can persevere, seek help and set themselves a goal to overcome individual challenges.

This term, pupils discover ways to keep themselves healthy through sleep, keeping clean, eating healthy food and physical activity.

Summer 1 Summer 2

In the weeks of this term, pupils learn about all about friendships – how to be a good friend, what to do if a friendship falters and how to deal with unkind words.

In the last term of Reception, pupils learn how to respect their bodies and what happens as they grow and change.

We will working on our Being Me unit where we will understand out rights and responsibilities as part of a class and how we are an important part of that community.

We will be working on our Celebrating difference which is focused on respecting similarities and differences with a focus on being unique and anti-bullying lessons. Additionally, we will be having regular Zones of Regulation

We will be looking at understanding what it means to be hygienic and ways we can keep clean and healthy.

We will be learning how our bodies protect us. By the end of the unit, we will be able to name the five senses and how they are used to protect us. Later, we will explore the process of healing.

Summer 1 Summer 2

We will be learning how improving our relationships with our friends and through exercises in listening and sharing opinions respectfully. By the end of the unit, we will understand the concept of fairness and how to empathise with the feelings of our friends and adults at home.

We will be looking at how having a balanced diet provides us with the necessary vitamins and minerals to live a healthy life.

Through circle times, we will talk about being part of a class, and learn what it is like to be in a school setting by feeling safe, feeling proud of ourselves and learning about our responsibilities as pupils begin to experience a range of new experiences within a school day.

This term pupils learning how to make new friends and celebrate our cultural diversity in school by celebrating differences.

In PSHE this term we will be thinking about relationships. We will be learning what different positive and healthy relationships look like and exploring how we can resolve conflict when it occurs in our relationships.  In PSHE this term we will be thinking about dreams and goals. We will be looking at choosing realistic goals and how we can work to achieve them. We will also be learning about how to work with others to achieve our goals.

In PSHE this term we will be thinking about ‘Healthy Me’. Children will learn about the importance of physical and mental wellbeing and how to promote this through diet and lifestyle. In PSHE this term we will be thinking about ‘Changing Me’. Children will learn about animal life cycles and the process of growing from young to old. They will also think about how they have changed since they were a baby and the differences between boys and girls. Pupils will learn that some parts of their bodies should be kept private and understand that there are different types of touch, explaining which ones they do not like.

This starting term in Year 3, pupils set themselves goals and develop skills in showing positivity in tackling challenges.  They explore responsible choices as well develop

ing the skill of seeing things from others’ perspective.

This term, we explore families and the pupils place in it.  They learn how to recognise unkind words and how to respond if they were in this situation, as well as learning techniques for managing conflict.

Pupils will begin to recognise and learn how to overcome obstacles and challenges through showing enthusiasm and motivation, as well as developing evaluation skills in their learning process.

Pupils in this ‘healthy me’ unit will investigate food labelling and explore healthy food swaps, as well as finding out how they respect can themselves offline and online.

The them of staying safe online continues this term, as well as how pupils choices affect others and developing an awareness of how others have different lives and situations.

This term, pupils will study what a baby needs to grow and how human bodes change inside and out, as well as taking part in ‘preparing for transition activities’ for the next year group.

Democracy and having a voice are key themes for this term, as well as being a school citizen. 

Themes explored this term include: challenging first impressions and assumptions, accepting self and others and understanding bullying.

Spring 1 Spring 2

This term pupils look up how to celebrate their contributions, through developing resilience and group work to achieve their goals and overcome disappointment.

Key themes covered this term include peer pressure, smoking and alcohol and its effects, as well as developing assertiveness skills to maintain healthy friendships.

Appreciation of animals and people is studied this term, as well as exploring human traits such as jealousy, love and loss and how to process memories of loved ones.

Through PSHE lessons this term pupils will go into detail around girls and puberty, as well as how change can be handled.

Pupils are learning to plan for the forthcoming year by thinking about how their behaviour affects groups as well as exploring their rights and responsibilities.

people holding different views may cause conflict in this world.  Pupils will discuss topics such as rumours, name-calling and racism.

As Upper Key Stage two pupils, our Year 5 class are starting to think about their futures in this next unit.  They consider a range of jobs, including their dream jobs and the steps needed to get there.

In this unit, pupils delve into keeping their bodies healthy by considering body image and their relationship with food, alongside emergency first aid.

A key focus this term is how our pupils engage in online activities.  From learning about the dangers of online grooming, to creating SMART internet safety rules, pupils consider how to building safer online communities.

In the final unit of the school year, pupils look at how the online and offline media influence body image, before learning about puberty in boys and girls.

In our PSHE lessons, we will look at celebrating the differences between pupils in our class and all people in the world. We will think about what makes us unique and why this is important.

In this term pupils will explore the perception of normality and begin to understand disability.  They will tussle with the ideas of inclusion and exclusion and see how differences are celebrated and how they cause conflict.

Pupils will set themselves a goal with explicit success criteria.  They will consider how to recognise achievements and how to accept compliments.

The foci this term is taking personal responsibility. Pupils consider their emotional and mental health as well as explore ways to manage stress.

Summer 1 Summer 2

Key topics explored in this unit are how they manage their feelings, mental health and identifying any possible worries, also how they can get support as they grow up.  They will also consider ways of staying safe online through a range of technology.

In the final Year 6 series of PSHE lessons they will be finding out about physical attraction and reflecting upon changes in their bodies through puberty.
