Our approach

In 2014, working in collaboration with Ark Bentworth, Ark Conway launched the Sports, Health and Fitness Curriculum. Our innovative approach has attracted a great deal of attention from sports and health professionals and is an area where we are striving for cutting edge practise to raise the levels of fitness, participation and engagement in sporting activity. Rising Stars have now published our curriculum for other schools to use.

Reception

Autumn 1 Autumn 2

In our outdoor area, we will be learning to use the bikes and trikes safely and with confidence, develop our building skills through giant Lego building and creating obstacle courses.

In P.E. lessons, we will be working on developing our body strength, co-ordination, balance, and agility.

We will begin to learn how to hold our pencil correctly, using the tripod pencil grip. We will use this to begin writing different letters.

In our outdoor area, we will be learning to use the bikes and trikes safely and with confidence, develop our building skills through den building and building obstacle courses.

In P.E. lessons, we will continue to practise our Zumba routines and explore shapes we can make with our bodies.

We are starting to practice writing our letters correctly, using a tripod pencil grip, in Phonics and free flow.

Spring 1 Spring 2

This half-term, we will be learning to:

Build towers of 10+ blocks or more and build bridges

Use hands and tools for small dextrous movements (e.g., cutting, turning, connecting)

Ride tricycles and balance bikes around corners with confidence

Use cross lateral movement when moving forwards

This half-term, we will be continuing to:

Use bicycles and tricycles to practice balance and movement.

Show good control, coordination and agility in large and small movements, safely negotiating space through a range of games and activities.

Use dance to develop movement in time with music
