Year 5 Trip to the Royal Courts of Justice

Austen Class visited the Royal Courts of Justice on Monday 3rd July 2017 as part of their studies in Law. They conducted a Mock Trial in the Lord Chancellor’s Court, with children filling the roles of judge, witnesses, barristers, clerks, ushers and jury. The children learnt to weigh evidence and make fair decisions, as well as the structure of the legal system in the UK. After many strong questions and arguments, the defendant was found not guilty by a majority verdict. The facilitator was very impressed with the children’s preparation and the children behaved respectfully and politely. Well done Year 5!
